has spent most of his life and work in the South. He was born and raised in Tennessee, where his father was a Methodist preacher and his mother was a public school teacher. At the age of 10, he got his first turf when his mother sent him out to knock on doors during a local election. He went on to attend Duke University, where he became involved in community organizing. After graduating, he worked with various community organizations and unions, including the Industrial Areas Foundation, AFSCME, and eventually UNITE HERE where he currently serves as an International Vice President and Organizing Director. He has led dozens of successful organizing campaigns throughout the region in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. Scott is now also leading a new initiative called Workers to Workers, a multi-union member activation and power building initiative in North Carolina with aligned organizations that is drawing on labor history to inspire a new generation of union and community activists.
